Just waiting for the stork

March 9th, 2007

My maternity leave officially began on Tuesday morning at 10:00, immediately following my staff meeting.  I didn’t even have to go to that but I had to turn in my paperwork anyway so I thought I would go.  Wednesday was my first full day off so I truly took the day off.  My friend Karen gave me a gift certificate for a prenatal massage from the massage therapist she goes to so I made that appointment for the morning.  It was delicious!!!  After a quick lunch, I stopped at my usual nail place and got a pedicure and manicure.  Don’t worry, I actually did something today besides sit while the baby cooks.  I got all our thank-you notes written for gifts people have sent.  Tomorrow’s task is to make it to the post office to mail them.  Can’t do everything in one day.  All I really want to accomplish before the baby gets here is one more thorough housecleaning and the taxes.  However, the taxes could wait because I can punch numbers into Turbo Tax and breastfeed at the same time.  I cannot say the same for housecleaning.   Hopefully tomorrow will be more productive with the housecleaning because all I got done today was the bathroom.  But I did get my oil changed and worked on laundry.  I’m trying to find a balance between getting enough rest for the big task ahead and staying active for the big task ahead.  Both will help contribute to an easier labor, from what I’m told.
As for the baby, it is bee-bopping around as much as ever, typically after meals.  I have observed that when I look down at my belly, it doesn’t seem to be that big.  Then I look in the mirror.  Ahhhh!!!  When did that happen?!  One of the midwives at the birth center guessed the baby will be in the 7-pound range when it is born so I’m not too worried.  It’s just there is this grand illusion depending on the angle from which I see my belly.  For the most part, I’m still feeling more comfortable than I thought I would at this point but I’m definitely ready to get my body back.  My sleep schedule is already messed up so I don’t need to wait for that to happen.   I’m not used to napping during the day so unfortunately I have to stay up late until I’m sleepy again.  Then I end up getting up early because I’m either uncomfortable or the dog wants to play.  Then I have to take a nap because I was up early.  It’s a vicious cycle.  Anyway, we are just waiting for things to get going although I don’t think anything is going to happen before Wednesday, our due date.  I can’t believe the 14th is almost here.  Where did the time go?  In case I don’t get to post anything before the baby gets here, I’ll say now that we will post pictures as soon as we can and when I am up to it I will tell you all about waterbirth.  Please keep us in your prayers.
